Donna Johns-Thomas is a leadership and learning strategist with more than 20 years of
experience helping teams grow stronger, work smarter, and lead with confidence. She partners
with mission-driven organizations, schools, camps, and companies that prioritize people—but
may not have full in-house HR or training departments to support them.

Donna has led professional development and staff training at scale, serving as Director of
Learning & Development on the Human Resources Team at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, where she supported more than 250 staff across nine locations and oversaw the organization’s internal
staff training as well as contributing to compliance, employee relations, and culture. She also
served as Director of Professional Development and Conference Director for the American Camp
Association, New England—where she led regional learning initiatives and managed a major
annual conference that brought together hundreds of camp professionals from across the
Northeast.

A certified ALICE instructor with deep experience in safety preparedness, trauma-informed
leadership, and generational workplace dynamics, Donna is also the current Board President of
The Massachusetts Camping Association.

The name Indigo comes from her longtime Girl Scout camp name—a nod to her roots as a
frontline counselor. And speaking of “roots”- the silver streak in the logo? That’s not just
branding—it’s in her hair, and it’s kind of her signature. Plenty of people have forgotten her
name but remember “the one with the silver streak.” That’s her.

Donna lives in New Hampshire with her wife, Beth. She’s originally from a small town in
southern Ohio and still brings that grounded perspective to everything she does. She also sings
and plays guitar—but don’t expect her to join you at karaoke night. For reasons even she
doesn’t fully understand, she’s great at public speaking and totally terrified of singing in public.
